Title: Can I get rid of a kidney infection without antibiotics?
Post by: Carolyn on 22/02/2009 20:33:34
I woke up this morning with what I'm pretty sure is a kidney infection.  I don't think I have a fever.  I feel a constant urge to urinate, but produce very little and it's painful.  There has been a little blood in it.

I know I should go to the doctor, but it's Sunday and they aren't open today or tomorrow.  The only other option is the emergency room, and the nearest one is two hours away.

I'm trying to drink plenty of water and cranapple juice (I hate cranberry).  Is there anything I can do to flush this out of me?

Two hours... it took decades to develop specific agents to kill bacteria efficiently!
Go to a pharmacy and ask for an antibiotic commonly used for urinary infections PLUS a sterile container for a urine sample BEFORE taking the drug. Then you can have it tested for specific bacteria and for a more 'targeting' antibiotic.
Emergency room might be even better: they would do it all for you.
Drink plenty of water...not too much wine!  [;D]
AFTER that we can play with garlic and yoghurt and any sort of nutrient that may help in the long run.
Never undertreat a urinary infection: our kidneys are precious.

Thanks Iko and Karen.

I called every doctor in town on Monday morning and could not get an appointment until today.  My kidneys didn't want to wait that long.

Unfortunately drinking water and cranberry juice was not enough.

Last night my fever shot up to 104.  I was shaking so badly that I thought for sure my brain would be bruised!  Hubby took me to ER where they took right good care of me.  I'm still feeling very weak, but I'm on the mend.
