I can't remember not ever being here. I feel that when we die things will be the same, not existing. How much time passed while I did not exist*? What made me conscious? I feel that if our world and consciousness happened once it can happen again. A completely different situation but it could happen again. Being dead, I could 'not exist' for a long time*. Then suddenly, I exist again (consciousness). And it would be like no time* had passed at all. And If this be the case, relax, we live forever. Ad infinitum.
*Some will say even time doesn't or didn't exist. I'm calling 'time' the thing 'that is' or 'not is' while we're not conscious.

You've touched on a topic which might lead to a lengthy thread...
in MY opinion...I know the Universe was around for a few billion years before I came along....and it will continue for billions of years after I have gone too......In all that time previously...I sincerely do not remember popping in and out of existence a few times.....but if I did...and I can't remember it...then what's the point !!?...If I am to come back...I want to come back as ' me ' !!
Regarding the nature of Time......well...if the nature of the Universe is to continue to expand forever then unless it (The Universe) rips apart then time will continue ad infinitum..........if the universe is to collapse back on itself (which I think is not generally accepted now) then ' time ' will indeed come to halt I think in what people call the big crunch !!....I'm just a novice in this field though...so perhaps an expert will clarify my last points.

Hi poppa oomowmow, hard to spell!, and neil ,easy to spell!
I am no expert either, but there has to be enough mass in the universe for a Big Crunch to happen, and this could result in the expansion of the Universe slowing down to zero and then reversing, I don't know that this would result in a reversal of time. it is possible that when all the mass in the Universe finally contracts to a minute size, very strange things could happen that might very well result in an entirely new Universe in another Big Bang.
So it's all if's, may's and when's. My understanding could also be totally wrong. Daveshorts may well be able to answer this with more certanty than i can.

I welcome you also Poppa Oomowmow! I must say I am with Neil about if I have been and will continue to be coming back so to speak, I want to be me.. I always heard that this plain was for learning and we just keep coming back till we get it right.. If that were so.. I know what I did wrong and would love a chance to correct it! and start anew.. LOL

Thanks to all for replying. I'm meaning that maybe we'll all be conscious again. Not necessarily 'us' as we are right now. But conscious. What is consciousness anyway? How is it implemented in us? Maybe we've been here 1000s of times before. Never remembering the life before (but maybe that will be solved at some point). That's fine with me, either way. Do I really have a choice, anyway? If we have consciousness again, the 'me' I will be, will be fine, just as it is right now.
I used to look at computer games and think, 'what happens to the figures when the game is not being played?' And I thought, maybe that's us. We're simply woke up, time and time again, for the game.

papa, exactly. Ive never heard someone say that (except einstein) but it has always seemed so blatantly obvious to me. You cant view yourself as dead, you can only perceive yourself if you are alive. Also Im under the impression that anything that happened in the past can and will happen in the future, exactly how I dont know, but I will always think that no matter what.

This thread brings to mind the first thought I can ever remember having. As peculiar as it may sound, the first thing I remember thinking was; "Ohhh no, not again!!" I'm serious, growing up in my younger years, this is the greatest and longest lasting impression about my existence that I can remember.
