Hello everyone,
I am thinking about buying an atlas of Carbonate Petrology

, but from the information I collected I can't be sure if that's what I am looking for. I anyone has ever explored it can you tell me if besides the huge amount of photos it also has detailed explanations about them?

From the look of it "probably no" is the answer. It is 4000 picture of thin sections or pictures of slices of rocks mounted on glass slides, the ground down to a thickness of 0.02 mm or less to light can pass through them. Many of them will be of these sections with a polarized and/or cross-polarized light filter(s) in special petrologic microscopes.
There will probably be a small description under the pictures or in a book along with the DVD or on the DVD. BUT I do not know if they will be specific enough for your interest level. Write AAPG (Go to http://www.aapg.org/contacts/help.cfm), select email to Michele Kendrick, 7th from top, and ask her what is included. Also, include your knowledge level - hobbiest, K-12 teacher, college teacher or geologist, so include that in your email as well.
