Oh my !!!...just check it out !!...Now that is a handful of "soil-love" right there!..breathe it in and enjoy the moment !...makes you wanna roll all over it doesn't it ?.......... erhmmm !![::)] [::)]
But how many moments did it take for this soil to find it's way into my garden here in North London , Uk, ?...is soil in similar climates...similar soil ?
What's it made from ?
I asked my two year old son as he is an expert in soiling nappies/diapers but all he did was smile and fart !...could that be the answer ?
whajafink ?

Since this is probably from a compost heap in Kent, about 6 months from inception to market to garden.
By the way, I like your nice feminine manicure. Does you proud that you care not what people think.
It is Exodus' turn to do some contributing so I'll leave the whole soil science theory to him. Fair? Probably not. But then .....

you have very nice hands.

Crime investigators have pinpointed locations of death because of soil found on victims.
Similar climates might still produce different soils.

I think you've got a smart son.

I am confused are attempting to trace the orignis of your dirt like. What was this soil doing a millions years ago? or what was it a hundred years ago?
or
are you asking how soil is made? Cause your son already covered that more or less correctly.

Yes, I am asking the total length of process it took for the soil in my garden to be there......well....setting aside the creation of the Universe etc.....I am referring to when the ingredients of the soil started to break down into what you see above.

Neil, Soil is life for earthworms, birds and other insects that I can't name right now. It's broken down plants, roots. grass or clippings from your
compost pile, If you have a garden that is
Including that fact that dead bodies eventually become meals for worms then
broken down into dust and earth.

So soil is relatively new on our planet- as well as humus it contains tiny particles of eroded and weathered rocks, which end up as clay, sand and gravel.
