Well, I have my new computer mostly up and working - silly me, thought I'd be clever and try using Windows XP x64, and that has caused me more headaches than all the hardware issues - my printer does not have drivers for 64 bit Windows, my old virus checker does not work on 64 bit, so have had to get another virus checker, and find that Real Audio does not work under 64 bit, so have downloaded Ral Alternative, which does the same job.

Had a hard disk failure, but at least it proved that RAID5 does what it is supposed to do.

Still have to put in the floppy drive (have an old floppy drive in there at present), and change one of the fans - the components all ended up arriving in bits and pieces, so those were the last bits to arrive, and I have not yet installed them.

And, yes, I have skype working (not sure if you will have enough bandwith to use skype without running some sort of broadband connection).  It is very nice not running out of hard disk (I have 500GB of disk available - OK, actually 750GB, but because of RAID5, 250GB is not accesible).  The system is a bit noisy, because I put as many fans as I could in there to keep it cool (maybe changing over that last fan might reduce noise a little - I hope so).

Would be very suprised if they can charge for basic skype in the very near future, since so much hardware has been sold on the back of skype being free (there is a charge for using Skype to non-skype users - e.g. skype to landline) - but ultimately, yes, I would guess much of what we expect for free on the Internet will be charged for, including skype.

Anyway, if skype does start charging, there are other alternatives - although skype is the largest VoIP network, if it begins to upset its uset base, there are alternaitives that user base can turn to.

I am so glad you are up and running! I did not know one needed so many fans in their computer! I have one I think. I can see into mine as one side is done in a clear panel to allow veiw! Thats interesting about the other companies. I hope all is good with connections for mine we will see. Talk to you soon!

I would guess you probably have 3 fans in your computer - that is normal.  One fan deep inside, sitting atop the processor, one fan that is part of the power supply unit, and another fan on the back of the case.  Often, the power supply fan (right next to where the power cord comes in) is the most obvious from the back of the machine.

Sometimes one can put a second fan on the back of the machine, but since my machine already has a 120mm fan at the back, I cannot fit a second one there (most machines have 80mm fans, and you can then fir a second).  You can add one or two fans at the front of most machines to help draw air in, and I have put two fans there (since I have 3 hard disks there, at least it helps push air past the hard disks), and I also have a separate fan on the side of the case.

No Its her 3rd or 4rth, but first one of her own.. No roomates.. The boyfriend I imagine will be there most all the time but She did this one on her own.. Money wise she can afford the rent and utilities on her own! Under 500.00 a month! That is about 1000.00  in yours right?

I missed the soup out of you this last weekend! But I had a terrific Saturday.. There was no way anyone could make my day sad .. It was a glorious day filled with lots of wonderfulness! I was warm and happy all Day Long!!!Even On Sunday! How about that!

I have have met several parents that moved here after the devastation there who say they will never go back.. The devastation was more then thet ever wish to see again.. Now they have moved to humboldt. We are right on the cascadia and san andreas fault lines. The SAn Andreas empties about 5o miles south of me into the ocean and we , my house and many otheres set right on top of the cascadia subduction zone.. We haveLots and lots of earthquakes. I have a crack in my wall from the last big one was a 7.2 shaker. The worst one I have experienced! It's funny how people choose between the two evils! We have only had one Hurricane here that I know of and it broke the equiptment at the airport moving at over 101 miles and hour! I like the wind, like a child it makes me feel full of energy. This one was awesome. The skys turned completely this deep red which I had never seen before then it turned a browner red kind of color in the middle of the afternoon. The wind was crazy and by evening we had so much property on our Property it was crazy ! We had Garbage cans and lawn chairs and barbeques and things you wouldn't think of that had blown from over ten miles away.. Cans had addresses from Clear in arcata and we are inland and sheltered bt the forest . You would not have believed.. I guess you would since you have probably seen worse where you guys are. For here it is unusual!!It uprooted two huge oak trees which sat on either side of my trailer, in the process it flipped my old car over upside down... It was crazy . I had stuffed my Kitty into my jacket and zipped her in as I was frightened and so was she. She was going nuts! I then locked my Trailer door and walked towards this house which at the time was my parents house. I was renting their trailer! I was about 20 feet away from trailer when I heard the most horrifying noise I have ever heard ! It was like the earth taking a huge breath and moaning loudly and increasing in volume as I turned around to look behind me, the two trees came up out of the grounda and came falling towards me.. the car raised up under the roots as the tress went crashing to the ground and I was running to get out of the way of the trees! As the trees landed their roots completely flipped the car over on its side . rocking like a craddle on top of the disturbed earth. the wind then caught hold of it and threw it up and flipped it over onto the roof of the car!! I stopped running and kind of froze, my cat was ripping my stomach up trying to get away as she was scared to death as was I! I was able to get her inside of my mothers home, much more stable then a trailer. Then I just put her in a room with the other animals as we had brought them all in as we were going to loose them if we did not!  It was awing to see the damage we were without power for 3 weeks and trees were down every where around us. we were three days before we could get out down the road and that was with every neighbor working all day to clear the roads from the trees. They were all completely blocked by numerous trees, not just one or two. At the time we had alot more forest surrounding us. They have begun clearing the woods and cutting down the redwoods so there are fewer trees now. Only have then on one side of me directly now days. they are here on other side, but they have cleared enough that now it is a community in between us and the edge of the forest now on thenorth side! Any way I don't know whats really worse but because I know what to expect here, I choose to stay here!

JUST YOUR PIE!! LOL NO I was in computer room with door shut as usual and aparently Number one son decided to come down and cook something in some grease on stove, he failed to turn it off, and left the house!! I do not know when he did it as I have been here on the computer hacking up a lung and posting... LOL I could not seem to stop hacking it was getting worse, felt as if I was choking to death so I stood up , nose can't smell anything right now , and I opened the door.. Black smoke billowed into the room the house was with smoke... The kichen frying pan on top of stove was in flames so I had to get extinguisher out and put it out!! Took pan out to poch.. I am still coughing... but ok and there was no damage other then to the pan.. I believe she's history! Oh well I am airing the house but it is way too cold for me outside so I opened my window and shut this door to clear this room! Jeesh... You are not very observant Kind Sir! LOL LOL Neither am I seeings that my nose wasn't working as well as my eyes I should have seen the smoke above me head if I had looked up sooner!! LOL LOL

  I did not see or smell the smoke cause I am sick and scent module is not functioning! I just opened the door cause I was going for help, cause I was choking...! Once I seen all the smoke roll in I knew I was choking on smoke and not the nastiness residing in my lungs!!

First aide scissors clippers needle and thread, exta buttons, wallet photos, money, scratch paper pens ids, extra keys as me is notorious for locking myself out!! wet wipes for me hands lotion moistuizer, fun stuff, phone, the refriderator stays in the car though won't fit in me purse!! LOL LOL

OOOOOH Blue that sounds adventurous... I don't keep make up in puse as I verty rarely wear makeup... sometimes a little lipstick if I feel adventuous, but on whole I hate make up I look Like a clown wearing it! LOL! I do like hair sparkles hair clips bracelets HUMMMMM I like a necklace now and then, but not often. I wear earrings once in a blue moon, not often!

Yeah Once in a blue moon its ok.. But reality is me best points... I am kinda down to earth girlie.. I like perfumes that like me occasional makeup, very little jewelry, and pretty simple basic clothing. I do like to dress nicely to go out and I like girlie clothing as I am girlie. I don't care for wearing the masculine clothing! But I like jeans and tops and I think they can be very feminin  too!

Well I just finish d chopping wood, I guess I still have it in me..Its either freeze or cut the dang wood! I cut the wood. That Madrone is really hard to sink the ax into, but once you get it in their and give a good whack it pops open like a jack in the box! I really should go cut a big pile so there are some reserves without having to call in the boys!! I really hate to chop wood as it irritates my shoulder and back further.. But me hates being cold even worse...

I have a large chain saw that we cut the rounds with . We also have the small one. But You can't split the wood with the chain saw! You need an ax an a maul, or one of those handy dandy wood splitters. you gas it up lay the round into the dip and like a jaw crushing into it it clamps it forcing the split... OOOOH so nice it is way cool!  I get stirred up just thinking about it!! LOL I want one real bad! I am a tool Girl! I love me tools! Worse then the boys, I say!

You would not like it for long! It's hard work! To cut 5 or six chords of wood a season and stack it.. thus the reason I am chopping now! Nobody did the prep worl this summer. JUst brought in huge trees dumpoed the whole load of trees in my yard and there they sit. Now its every day cutting!

Hi karen windows media player will copy it to your hard drive as an mp3, if yours dont then update it to a newer version , if you start up the program and put the cd in click the  option at the top called rip, tick the tick boxes that come up on the tracks then at the top to the right click rip music. if its the first time you've ran the copy program another box should come up letting you change prefrences which allow you to change copy quality or format . I think default is windows media format ,some programs cant read this so to be safe it may be best to change it to mp3 format.


I think it saves by default in xp to C:\Documents and Settings\MICKY\My Documents\My Music. obviously for you if you've set up accounts on xp then micky would be something like karen instead ,i hope:)

Not really MP3 and windows media format are quite small size wise after all think how many mp3 you can fit on your mobil phone

Well my music stored to a file easily and quickly. It did it all on its own and saved it in Mp3 form as you said Michael. It sent it right into my email attachment which was cool, but it said it wouldn't up load more then 16MB, I think it was megabites. so the file was too large so I went back into the options when coping the file. It would only let me split it using a Rar format whatever that is. I know from past emailings to m friend that rar is not recognized by the computer my friend uses so in the past I have had to send things in zip form.. Is there some way to fix the file so it will go as is. It offers several varieties of quality from best to fast or quick, something like that! Any suggestions. By the time I used the rar and it split it into 22 email attachments .. I sent several and gave up! Help! I told my friend to delete them until I can figure it out! Should I only rip half of the songs at a time and send them like that?

Karen i have hundreds of mp3 and 99 percent of them are between 1 and 3 megs in size, the higher the quality you save them at the bigger the file size. You should set the quality to 128Kbps any higher and you will not really notice the difference in sound quality. but will notice how big the files are.


if you want MP3s at  about 2 to 3 meg in size right click the the rip tab at the very top a small menu will appear click on tools then options find the rip music option that comes up and you will see a slider, slide it all the way to the left and click apply ,your music will now be saved at 128kphs which is good enuf quality for everyday use.

Geez, girl!  YOu need to get off dial up!  LOL  I have audiograbber...very nice...I can customize the size, folders, etc...very nice program

I bet it is. I can't get high speed here they don't have it out here where I live unless I get Cable Tv and pay out the nose for it and the internet! Can't afford that right now! I bet your program is cool!
