very probably. the shock waves from supernova explosions probably tend to trigger the collapse of cool gas and dust clouds to condense into stars.  I have always considered this to be one of the reasons for spiral structures in disc galaxies with active star formation.

After looking at the article I see that they were talking about shock waves from the sun as it went through the process of collapsing and starting up it nuclear furnace.  this clearly has an effect and as they start up young stars go through a very bright phase which scorches nearby planets and blows away the uncondensed dust and gas.
