Title: Superstring
Post by: nndaia on 21/07/2005 13:22:47
Could anyone, please, in layman's terms, explain the superstring theory to me? i can't find information anywhere; at least, not that I can understand.

I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate.
And I can picture us attacking this world, because they'd never expect it.

The hard part about giving a layman's explanation of String Theory is that it's so darn complicated! It deals with quantum physics and the theory of relativity, and involves quite a lot of goofy math and mind stretching. The basic idea is that there are little loops (strings) that make up all matter. They are smaller than quarks and they vibrate at different frequencies, thereby creating different things (like quarks, and other nanoparticles). I think there's also something about them blip-ing in and out of existance, or something. Here's a link to an online tutorial that may help, or it might just confuse us all more.

And here's a link to a really good website by NOVA discussing strings and the book "The Elegant Universe," the most popular book on string theory at the moment.

Au contrair.

Should have seen the nuns at the convent in Leipzig on Friday night, dance in the moonlight to the B Minor Mass.
