Title: I'm looking for advice on getting off prescription
Post by: mikealgarve on 14/02/2005 10:15:34
Hi all [:)] I'm looking for advice on getting off prescription drugs ASAP.

I'm a 42 year old male. I had a stent fitted 18 months ago and two more stents fitted 6 months later due to, in the first case an attack of angina. The second case was after a hospital stress test.

I have quit smoking and doing hard drugs (the triggers!), I have completely changed my diet and lifestyle and since the angioplasties, I have been on meds. aspirin, plavix, statin and a beta blocker.

My cholestral is down to 5.8! good or bad??? will we ever know!

From what I've read I think it's a good idea to dump the above drugs ASAP! and stick with the healthy living and lots of water, re: (watercure.com).

My question is: what is the safest way to get off them? ie, what sequence? should I just stop or taper off? Is it safe to continue with just aspirin?

Can anyone please give answers or point to another site that I can check out?

Regards and thanks
Mike

Mike, welcome.

I think it would be a very bad idea for you to knock the medication on the head. The agents prescribed for you (aspirin, clopidogrel, beta blocker and statin) have all been shown, by extensive well-controlled clinical trials, to save lives. They are not prescribed without reason.

You have made a major contribution to good health by giving up smoking and taking hard drugs. I'd strongly urge you to continue with these therapies because they are usually well tolerated and strongly influence outcomes, particularly in people with stents or stent-requiring disease.
