My nice juicy plums !

Please feel free to take one of my plums into your mouth...hmm...nice eh ?

I'd like to know though if my plums are alive or dead ?...Were they alive until the moment they were plucked ? I luff having my plums plucked by plum pluckers !! (lol)...or do they continue to live for a while after they have been plucked ?..I don't mean a few minutes but maybe a week or two ?

whajafink ?

As a firm believer in empirical study I offer my juicy plums to be handled in the name of science.

Hugs & Shmishes

mwah mwah mwah !!

That's a difficult one.
It depends on what you define as being living.

I'd compare the plums to a zygote. A zygote is not really living, but it can sprout life in the right circumstances.

OHHHHHH GAWWWWD I LUFF PLUMS...Yummy.. those look delicious and nicely ripened.. I'll take two.. Thank you....Generally fruit continues to ripen right into death mode eh? At least thats what I thought.. I would think as soon as you pick it, that its life span would speed up, and then aid in the composting and breakdown that begun at that point of harvest.. but I am no expert... so..maybe Nizzle can elaborate...

Thank ewe Nizzle and thank ewe Karen,,

...hmmmm...........*sheepie ponders*.....so..we need to establish whether they are living or not before I can really ask the question !!...T'is  a headache for a sheep !

Neilp: I thought I'd leave this thread for a bit because I thought it was an impossible question to answer, just on the basis of a single snapshot in time, as it were.

Please post another picture of your plums, one that post-dates the original picture, so that we can assess whether there has been any deterioration to your plums.

I think that the ultimate answer regarding the life status of your plums depends upon their continued ripeness, for if they're now shriveled and wrinkly then you may need to come to terms with the fact that they're probably now best described as prunes.

A plumb will decompose down to the seed and if left on the groung that seed usually over the course of the year reroots itself into the ground and suckers emerge therefore I say that his two plumbs are rather like a caterpiller ever evolving.. the flesh fand meat falls from the seed and composts its area with nutrients from its evolution as the seasons resolve the other problems of wind rain heat from  sun and tah dah new life emerges in the form of a new sucker that then begins again to mature into a tree... then fruits and cycles once again...
