The spell check seems to be intermittently faulty.

If you did not know how to spell the word in the first place, then how do you know the spell checker is wrong?

Twice today (Wednesday) TNS has shown me the IE offline message while I am online and I don't know the reason for this unless the server was down.

Or the board was down because it is so popular.

Does anyone know the reason.

Nope! I don't know why.. but it is this site acting up again...

Dave it is doing it again today. no where else but here!

Its taking forever to post some thing and it has timed out twice on me today and I had to wait so not to loose my post then retry them a couple times!

Karen yes you might be right and when I think that I am going to lose an important post then I copy it with my mouse to paste if need be.

Why can't I mark this topic read?

http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=18100.0

I've read it a few times, also put a little check mark in the box and clicked "mark as read" and it still doesn't.

I know this is not a problem of massive proportions, but it's driving round the bend!

This has been bugging me for a while, but I wondered if the move to daylight saving time would make any difference. Unfortunately not! TNS is still an hour ahead! It is clearly 18:11 UK time right now, but TNS website insists it is 19:11. Has caught me out several times and got me panicking that I'd lost an hour! Is there a reason for this time-anomoly, or am I just caught in a time-warp?

When I'm reading through the main forum menu the screen keeps jumping around. I presume this may be something to do with the alternating messages at the top of the screen. I don't usually have problems with messages like this but when they make the whole screen jump it is rather annoying.

Its not really a problem, but a spelling mistake instead.

In the Fact/Fiction section theres a question:
Island of Hawaii is made up of a volcano?

The answer:
It's True Hawaii is actually a string of islands each of which is a volvano.

Since I am a complete newbie at this, I hope i've found the right place to point it out :)

I am impressed :)

In fact I am so impressed I am going to award you a FOG medal, usually reserved for those more established members.

If you haven't come across the term FOG yet, here is a link to explain it.

And welcome to the forum Dr C  ;D

Thank you Variola. Purely coincidence though :) Needless to say, I am a Fan Of Genuineness, and like to see things correct, Scientific Facts or English Spelling :)  (And that comes from a person who actually makes loads of spelling mistakes himself).

Thank you for you medal and the welcome greeting  :)

Dearest TNS techy people...well Daveshorts!

Do you think we could fix whatever is wrong in the biography bit on users profiles? There is lots of random things put in with it, I spent ages fiddling about with mine but I still can't get it to read properly.

I'll use the Beaver's as an example

I have a PhD in psychology from Cambridge, a BSc in computer science from Brunel &amp; an MBA from the Open University. My speciality is addiction/dependence. I am interested in all aspects of science especially particle physics and cosmology. Although I don't understand the maths involved in relativity &amp; QM I understand the concepts &amp; enjoy discussing them from a philosophical point of view.<br />Oh, I'm also totally off my trolley!"

I think it might be to do with punctuation, with mine I found I got different bits and pieces up according to which punctuation I changed. It's not a major thing but it makes it difficult to read about other folk.  :)
