Recently found the BBC i player. this gives me two options, i can either download a programme or watch it via internet stream. If the download file size is 200MB, is the stream the same size?

The file size tells you the size it will take on the disk, and although it will give you a good indication of the amount of traffic it will take on the network, the network traffic will include additional protocol traffic that will not be saved in the file.

I don't know what protocols the BBC are using to send its files (probably could have a look, but not done so yet), so I cannot say if the compression algorithm for the file download is the same as for streaming (some compression algorithms that can be used for files are not suitable for streaming).
