Heather, if you're good at arguing, you ought to make a good lawyer.  It was a happy accident that you found us here!  And I sent an e-mail to you that was rejected also.

Neil, if Heather's e-mail and yours and mine are related in any possible way, I'm sure I can find a way to mess them all up!

Hmm seems like i came late to the topic, and everyone seems to be posting other things.....But what the heck![^] I'm currently 16(as of last week) 9th grade, and havnt had the privelage to study any physics or advanced maths yet:( Ive been doing karate all my life and i looooove to rock climb and repell.  The adreniline rush of hanging 300 feet up suspended by a mere thread seems to excite me.  Well i love physics and math but since i cant take the class yet i read all the time!

Now i feel like ive contributed somthing!!

OO

Welcome Richie.  Most people don't worry too much about your spelling, but some of our members can be kinda mean sometimes.

I've always thought rock climbing would be a lot of fun, but never tried it.  As I get older, I have trouble getting to the top of a ladder.

Physics is fun - you'll enjoy it when you start taking the classes.  There are lots of good books on physics that don't require a lot of math.  One that I'll recommend is "The Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene. It is about string theory, but in the first few chapters he covers Relativity and Quantum Mechanics very well. There are others that cover the more basic Newtonian physics also, but I don't have a specific recommendation right now.

hahaha thats funny....I was never really into english class so my spelling might be a little off, but he y i got the rest of my life to learn how to spell a word! could never possible use.

OHOH i read The Elegant Universe a few months ago, easily one of my favorite books.  I didnt really understand the part about waves, or when he was talking about needing .88 cents to get out of  the pit or somthing, lost me there.  Great book!

That saddam, what a crazy kid!

I am Rosalind Franklin's first cousin, she discovered the Single DNA Helix Structure. In her Diffraction Crystallography X-Rays work. She was in my opinion not only a pretty woman but a brillian scientist as well, she was not recognised fully in her short lifetime. 1920 -1958.

Although I do realise  that some may disagree with my point of views about her.

I think that as a result of Maurice Wilkins having taken her work out of her lab drawer and showing  her now infamous Slide 51 photo was shown to Crick and Watson, when they saw her work and the Double Helix too, but I am proud of my cousin's work and have been fascinated by her work all of my life.
That is why I have chosen my board name (Rosalind DNA) in her honour.
This is one of my favourite pictures of her.

This is wonderful.

THANK you so much for telling us about yourself and your esteemed relation.

I can certainly feel the pride in your post.

You could, if you felt inclined, create a thread about your cousin. I am sure it would be of much interest here. It would be fascinating to read some insights into the woman and her work.

No pressure of course....just an idea should you wish to elaborate on your pride which shines so full.

Thanks Neil I was actually thinking of doing a thread about Rosalind Franklin
as next year, 2008 will be exactly 50 years since her death so an anniversary of sorts also as the nobel prize.org link shows that the archives will be opened and then her possible nomination will be revealed.
yes you have this perfectly right
