I think it is actually a suspension - i.e. it has solid bits suspended in a liquid medium.

Hello Anastasia

I Propose an experiment,  which should interest your dad as i have heard he likes taking part in experiments.

Take your Dad and sit him on a kitchen chair and place a blind fold around his head. Then get your ketchup out of the cupboard.(preferably ketchup in a plastic container)Now stand in front of him and with a firm grasp on the bottle and with the lid remove squeeze all the contents over his head.

If after a couple of minutes you find that the ketchup is flowing down all over his body then you will know that its a fluid.

At this point of time it would be a good idea to do another experiment which proves younger people are fitter than old ones and run to the bathroom ,locking yourself in until he has cleaned himself off. ;) :)

P.S Dont forget to video the experimemt so you can prove your findings

At't'a boy Micheal - go ahead and get her in trouble. And you messed up the experiment.

Hi Anastasia,

Good to see you back. We have missed you so much. And even though the "Experiment" above would work Michael left out a very important part of this experiment.

1.) Take your Dad and sit him on a kitchen chair and place a blind fold around his head.

2.)Then TIE HIM FIRMLY TO THE CHAIR

3.) The rest is as he wrote.

Also I agree with George - ketchup is a suspension of tomato, starch and sugars in a water base.

And I want to see the video on U-Tube. It won't hurt you dad. At least it won't get in his hair. :o

Again,Welcome back

Ketchup is a liquid with bits of solid in it as has already been said.  The concept of a liquid depends on the physical atomic structure of the material. If the atoms are not linked in any fixed structure and can slide by one another it is a liquid.   Liquids can be very viscous indeed.  pitch (the gooey constituent in road tar is a liquid and a famous experiment shows it flowing through a funnel so is glass,  yes glass.  if you gave them long enough you glass window panes would drop out and drool down your house  but it would take absolutely millions of years.

How much force swung by a rope does it take to knock down a man of paul's weight, knock him ten feet, knock him across the room and/or knock him silly?

1.) find a gymnasium or boxer training place.

2.) Place paul in front of the sand bag.

3.) Pull the bag back, measuring the distance it will swing to hit him

4.) release the bag and film the results.

5.) increase the distance until you knock him off his feet.

6.) increase the distance until you can knock him 10 feet

7.) continue to do this until you can knock him across the room and into the wall or he doesn't get up any more, whichever comes first.

8.) Post the data you gathered and the videos and we will calculate the force for you.

Then you can show this to your science class at school. We will provide the formulas and explanation of what they mean so you may understand them and explain it to your science class.

By the way, Anastasia, will you let us know in a couple of months if ketchup grows new hair?

The Ytube was great. I will keep it for blackmail in future times.
