How do you clean Ivory?
« on: 18/03/2008 11:03:24 »
I have Ivory piano keys. They are looking purdy yellow and old and I was wondering if there is away to clean them without destorying them.

So how do you clean Ivory?

Thanks Sim  :)

First what kind of piano do you have?  A grand piano or upright?

Because that matters for the cleaning method which is quite simple
really as all you need is a damp but not wet cloth to clean your
yellow ivory piano keys and dust the keys.

Or use a small paint brush to remove the cause of the yellowing
is dirt from the grease and damp from your hands also others over time this will have happened.

Upright.

And I've taken a paper cloth that was a little wet and went over all the keys. It got the black color off the keys. And it looks like really nice, but the yellow doesn't go away. This piano is like from the 1950's and who knows what owner I am, so chances are the yellow won't be coming off?

Thanks Neil. Its just alot easier asking it on here and having someone else looking it up for me. But I would really look it up, but ugh Its hard to find time to do stuff without having to do anything else. Like now I'm working on homework and loads of stuff..
