I always had a good arm and had good control and distance...

On the whole though I think it is just that many girls are not that athletic and are not taught to throw.. I was always allowed to play catch and encouraged.. I batted and threw but never run the bases much unless I was home.. I was limited by types of activities I was allowed .. One of my closed friends growing up was a gorgeous blond who could ram that ball down your throat.. Had quite an arm played on all the baseball teams and can still throw better then any man I know!

Probably because they are all on a strict diet and refuse to eat toffee.

I'd rather she didnt ram the ball down my throat... i'd happily take her for a spot of dinner... maybe wine by the river and a gentle walk home.

But you do realise that the reason why the bowl balls overarm in cricket is to allow women to be able to bowl without getting their arms caught in their long billowing skirts - so it is clear that in the 19th century there were women who could throw, just not throw underarm.

Isn't a discuss a flat, plate-like thing that you throw?

But you do realise that the reason why the bowl balls overarm in cricket is to allow women to be able to bowl without getting their arms caught in their long billowing skirts - so it is clear that in the 19th century there were women who could throw, just not throw underarm.

That is one theory, but not one that has much following. More commonly accepted is this:-

Originally the ball was bowled underarm, but many bowlers began raising their arm so that the ball was bowled between waist and shoulder height in what was known as the roundarm method. One of the original exponents was William Lilywhite. Such an action allowed greater variety in the types of delilvery that could be achieved.

Gradually, bowlers began raising their arms even higher, to above shoulder height. At the time, the rules stipulated that such a delivery be classed as a no-ball. But there was a problem. Many of the umpires who had to enforce the rule were themselves bowlers who believed the overarm delivery should be allowed.

The turning point came in 1862 in a match at The Oval between Surrey & All England. The bowler Edgar Willsher repeatedly bowled overarm and was no-balled 6 times. He and the 8 other professionals in the England team walked off the pitch in protest and play was abandoned. Ironically, the umpire responsible was John Lilywhite, the son of roundarm exponent William Lilywhite.

As a result of the increasing clamour for overarm bowling to be legitimised, the MCC changed the rules to allow it shortly afterwards.

i always wwondered who females in general had such a different throwing style.  Then about a year ago i injured my rotator cuff, and now i can only throw JUST LIKE A GIRL (pardon the expression, but i think you all know what i mean).

i wonder if there are just certain small muscles in the shoulder that girls haven't developed that only permit them to throw the way they do.
