How may HIV be transmitted?
« on: 11/05/2008 11:28:23 »
Hey..A few questions.

1)Can HIV/AIDS be passed from Saliva>Blood?
2)How long is it until i can see effects of it?
3)Can an STI be passed from Saliva>Blood?
4)If i get tested for either,
How long will it take?
What will happen?
Do i have to inform my Parent/Guardian? (I live in UK)

Thanks alot

Stana, this may be out of date but it's my experiance of the testing.

When I had a aids / hiv test, I was also tested for all other std's. I did give my real name but you did not have to, you could be known under a pseudonym or number and you could either have the results posted to you or given in person at a future appointment. I think this took six weeks from my local hospital clinic.

You did not have to have any form of parental permission or attendance while you are tested. The aids / hiv test was a simple drawing of blood (iirc)..... Don't ask about the umbrella! I don't think this is given as a matter of course now.

All sexuality active adults should, imo be tested.

Hi

STD from saliva to blood? mmmmmmmm as far as I am aware no however, if you perform oral sex on a person with an STD you can contract the infection orally yourself! That is caused by the bacteria gaining entry into your mouth and can cause severe gum infections/bleeding etc....If a person does contract an STD such as Chlamydia an weeks supply of an antibiotic does the trick.

As for HIV, it hasnt been found in saliva as yet, cant contract HIV from kissing.

hope this helps

HIV is generally defined as a blood-borne virus, and although this is one route via which the agent might be transmitted, for instance following blood to blood contact (such as blood transfusion, trauma or needlestick), the most common route of acquisition is via unprotected sex. Usually this means unprotected vaginal or anal sex. Anal sex carries a much higher risk than vaginal sex, but the overall lower population frequency of anal sex means that heterosexual vaginal transmission remains the commonest mode of transmission at the moment. The risk under any circumstance is increased by other coexisting infections, in particular ulcerating diseases including herpes simpex and syphilis, which cause mucosal breaches and thereby provide a portal of entry for the virus.

Saliva, on the other hand, is low risk meaning kissing is low risk. However, theoretically, if a person had an injury in their mouth, facilitating blood contact, then the risk would be higher.
