Why Do I Go Deaf When I Yawn ?
« on: 19/11/2004 16:48:24 »
If I've asked this before then I apologise, but why in the process of yawning do I go deaf ?

Speak loudly please cos I yawn a lot.

Thanks

Neil

You think you go deaf, or is your own internal sound so loud that it blocks out all other sound?  That's weird.  I just yawned to test myself and I don't go deaf when I yawn.

Nope, I definitely lose about 50% of my hearing !!....everything becomes muffled, it's at the very apex of the yawn and stretch only though.....it's always happened as far as I can remember...I just thought it was normal !!....uh oh !!..now I'm beginning to doubt myself......will spend the night yawning and will report back....thanks...........I SAID THANKS !!!!

Your eustachian tubes close when you yawn....I would venture that they play some small role in hearing.
