....is NOT cock!

Seven times today, I have been called Mrs. Cock!  My last name is Koch, pronounced Cook.  People are always mispronouncing my name and calling me that!  Sometimes it's Coke, Cooch, Koch, but mostly it's Cock.  How does one get Cock from Koch?

This has been going on for 20 years and I'm sick of it! [:(!]

How does one get "Cook" from "Koch" ?, (ex-Mayor of New York Ed Koch didn't pronounce his name "Cook").

Edward Irving Koch (born December 12, 1924; pronounced kɔtʃ) was a United States Congressman from 1969 to 1977 and the Mayor of New York City from 1978 to 1989.

There's a BBC TV show where the running gag is the main character's name is spelled "bucket" but she insists it should be pronounced "bouquet"...

In the UK it's possible to change your name, provided its not for fraudulent purposes.
You could change the spelling of your name from Koch to Cook.

LOL....yes Penile is worse, but how many times do you go into a doctors office and have them come out into the waiting room and say "Neil Penile, the doctor will see you now"?

This always happens to me in doctors offices.  Once, when I very pregnant with Nic, the nurse called out "Carolyn Cock" and when I stood up and waddled toward the door she said "Oh my he's huge"!  The entire waiting room erupted in laughter!

Once I was having lunch with friends at a very popular restaurant.  My demented boss called and asked for me.  There was an announcement over the loud speaker "Carolyn Cock, you have a call at the front desk".  Again there was loud, thunderous laughter!

Today it happened twice on the phone, at the doctors office and the pharmacy!  It's a good thing I have a sense of humor!

My name is sometimes pronounced like Mayor Koch's also.  That's not as bad, as it's never followed by obnoxious laughter.  Don't think hubby would let me change the spelling of our name to Cook, I'd rather just pronounce it Koch.....ooohhhh wait...I could divorce him and go back to my maiden name, which is Cash.  Of course then I would just have to listen to stupid jokes with that name too. ::)

LOL...that happened to me and it was embarrassing.  One of Ashley's teachers saw me in a mall and shouted out to me.  Ashley was too timid to tell her the correct pronunciation while she was in class.

Look on the bright side, your name's not Richard or Hanns or Ivanna, Heidi...

If I saw your surname I would pronounce it to rhyme with loch (the Scotts word for a lake) I know lots of people who are not used to trying to pronounce that "ch" sound and they can't. To them, you would be a cock.

WHY DID MARRY HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE, KNOWING YOU WOULD BE CALLED MRS. COCK?

Well, Mr. Smarty Pants......I didn't know.  No one ever called him Mr. Cock while we were dating, but the truth is that I was young, dumb and ho   erhm...in love. [:I]

My surname is Colpman. I have had Coalman, Coldhands, Culpan but never the correct name even if I spell it. I've even started saying C.O.L.P for pervert M.A.N but still they get it wrong. Still think yourself lucky, my friend decided that she would like to have a double barrelled name use her husbands surname followed by her own surname. Problem is that he is called Ian Ferkin and she is Andrea Hill.
You could also be called Bucket and pronounce it Bouquet like the lady on "keeping up appearances."

When I was in one particular rock band we had a roadie whose surname was Deeble. He used to get called Dibble, Dweeble, Dingle and all sorts.

You've lost me!

Cock in London is a term of indearment used for people you wish to talk to but don't know the name of. I think it comes from Cock Sparrow but a Cockney will have to put me right. I think it is like saying boss.

A popular joke goes:

Man 1: Have you got the time on ya cock?
Man 2: No it is on my wrist like everyone else.

So when people call you Mrs Cock they are actually calling you Mrs Boss.
