Jorge Acosta asked the Naked Scientists:

I think everybody has it wrong!! I propose that the "EVENT" was caused by this:

1.) Earthquake in the area
2.) Massive release of methane gas trapped in the peat bogs
3.) Lightning common with earthquakes ignited the methane gas
4.) Massive explosion with formidable expansion
5.) Secondary fire storm.

What about it?
Regards,
Jorge

What do you think?

Interesting idea but they think they have found traces of the impacting object recently

The area is dished, that means it is a focal point of natural energy.  The 60hz field around the earth is capable of creating radio atomic blasts of this size, naturally.  The problem is they are so infrequent that noone cares about them.  I created one.(see thread Childhood Experiment.)  I think the blast was caused by a ferrous gas. It was ignited by a secondary ball lightning that was initiated in a circular weather front due to the dish shaped ground area.  The thundercloud was just about as small as they come, but the igniter was stronger than the gas eruption, that's why the atmosphere didn't catch fire.  Why are people so insistant on proving scientific examples.  Most scientific examples are very dumb.

Is there the slightest justification or evidence for this statement "The 60hz field around the earth is capable of creating radio atomic blasts of this size, naturally."?

I like this ferrous gas stuff. Tell me more.

And, in Europe, it's 50Hz, so I guess things change half way across the Atlantic.

Jorge,

Interesting theory but a commet or small asteroid or large peace of space junk more likely
