OK, lets take a poorly defined idea like inteligence. Then come up with what is known to be  a deeply flawed way to measure it. Then guess what that measurement may have come up with if it had been applied to a bunch of people who are past caring.
OK, Why bother?
If this looked like science then you would be making a prediction based on a hypothesis.

I agree with the chemist suffering from ennui. IQ tests are, in general, a total waste of time.

You are correct my daughter who did an IQ test some timeago with the result of 125 said she was ashamed about having such a peceived low IQ.

A IQ of 125 is really remarkably hight. People get an attitude or a complex about their IQ which like you so correctly stated have little real meaning.

I have difficulty with shapes, bad eyesight,I am on medication  for bipolar I believe this has brought me down from an IQ of approx 140 down to 110 on the latest test I did just the other day,

I feel I am as sharp and smart as ever and my posts and comprehension should reveal this. "Comprehension" is the key to "accessing" true intelligence, not just looking a odd shapes etc etc

Regards

Alan

I started this thead because so many people are interested in IQ test.

I like this one "If the Aborigine drafted an I.Q. test, all of Western civilization would presumably flunk it.
-Stanley Garn"
It shows that the test doesn't really measure anything.

Precisely, Sophie. Being good at IQ tests means that you're good at IQ tests.

I like that quote by you, some remarable even great people had/have normal IQ's

Nelson Mandela at estimated 120 a good IQ but not all that remarable. I wonder what the much maligned George bush would score.

I really dont think he is the stupid man than many take him for..

Yes, anyone can play Basketball!
As for IQ and IQ tests, this has been done before, and each time the replies tend to be the same...for example:

It's been accepted since the 1960's that IQ scores measure performance on IQ tests and nothing more. IQ scores can be a rough indicator of cognitive power, but utterly fail to measure creativity as well as many other factors. Computers have awesome cognitive power. Genetic algorithms can design structures better than humans, often with striking originality.

Nevermind the question of why do people make such a fuss about their own IQ; why would anyone be interested in a bunch of made-up IQs of dead people?

These IQ estimate are not just made up like you suggest as we can deduct much from the biographies and historical accounts on these remarable people I E doing activities at the age of three to five that no intelligent normal adult could ever hope to achieve

I am intersest ed in IQ of dead people as you call them , because I would like to know if there is any correlation between greatness and high intellect

And the 740 views on this one to pip in forum show they also have an interest

Tosh! The test doesn't relly mean anything, anoraks may wish to swap IQ levels whilst writing down the number of the loco that just went past but that's about it. Why should one feel inferior to someone because of an IQ test? most people will lie if asked what their IQ is, in fact, most people will see having such a test as a waste of time.
And anyone who goes around bragging what his IQ is, well, I hope they have fun...

I now you like to throw names around in your posts, so what do you suppose stephen hawkins replied when aske "What is your I.Q.?"...It was:

"I have no idea. People who boast about their I.Q. are losers. "

How does BC do it? He manages to always kill a topic as senseless as this with just one line. Mr Chemist and Mr Hawkins, I salute you...oh hold on, should BC be listed after or before Hawkins? Does anyone here know how to complie lists?

Prof Hawkins has just gone up in my estimation and that's no mean feat.
I had hoped it would kill the topic, but it seems I failed to note that "And the 740 views on this one to pip in forum show they also have an interest". I have to say that I can't argue with that.
Perhaps, since there seems to be some interest in establishing the link between greatness and IQ, we need to find the IQs of a few professional footballers and pop stars.
