Black glossy bubbley glass?
« on: 30/12/2004 15:44:58 »
I found a black rock which fractured brown. It is glassy and has bubbles and sides which show cleavage. I think it is Basalt. It's trivia, but what do you fellows think?

Where do you live, what are you surroundings, an ocean, a stream, a mountain, volcano?  Or did you find this near a bar joint?

I'll take a picture of it now. Here it is 2am January 1 2005. Happy new year.

I found it on an old inland road near an Australian war memorial. An old fashioned rocky Aussie road. Next to the big Hume Highway. This rock may have fallen off a truck 50 years ago. It isn't tar, it's too hard. Near is there was shale or coal and other minerals, but none alike it.

Sounds like obsidian - volcanic glass.

I look forward to seeing the photo.

sounds very much like Obsidian (volcanic glass to me) I have some wonderful flow banded obsidian from Mount Teide in Tenerife! Great stuff!
