Rosalind's computer access problemes
« on: 01/08/2008 15:50:08 »
I have more computer access problems and yes I do know how to fix the router, computer and filter only my present broadband provider disagrees.

I spent most of a very frustrating Friday on the phone to
BT and I will Definitely be changing providers soon.

So if I'm not online for a bit that's why also I'm in my
local library for 1 hour.

You have my sympathies.

I had lots of problems with BT and especially with their home-hub.

As you now know all problem calls are routed through a call centre in India? I think. They then go through a set script so no matter what the problem is you will be asked the same questions over and over again.

If you are using the home-hub then try and substitute it for a different make and model.

I was so frustrated that I eventually changed providers and since than have better speeds and just the occasional glitch. Trouble is you are also bound by the BT contract so if you change mid contract you have to pay the balance!

I'm no longer with BT and now get my broadband free saving a great deal of money.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Don't switch to Tiscali they are just as bad. The last few months have been OK but I had 6 months of hell before that. Be persistant Rosalind and let them know that you will switch if they don't sort it out. You can insist to talk to a manager or ask what their complaints procedures are.
If you are off for a long time you can get compensation.

I have switched to Virgin Media and the engineeer will set it up at home for on 21 August.

I still do not have any online access at home and yes it was a call centre in India, I can
remember that I had to spell my name, letter by letter. Then phone number, digit by digit
about 10 times all told on friday.

Stuff BT I said oh a worse but the 2 girls that I talked to on Virgin Media where more helpful than I'd guessed though they are Scottish.

BTW missed you

Avoid Orange - it's very slow at times: often I just have to give up and come back later. Would be interested to hear how you get on after the change.

Blake and Sharon the actual switch doesn't happen until 21st August so this morning again I am having to use the library's old computer.
But I'm missing not be able to turn my computer on and just carry on as usual.

Yes of course I will tell you all how I get on with the switch. Anyone
can be better than BT. Having to remember all of the site addresses
and login stuff is a pain.

I am fed up having to walk down the road to use a computer and pay for it as well, I would
like to be able to just go to use  mine but not until Thursday 21 August then I hope that
I'll be back online again. I did check the router today.

No internet light showing. Should I sue  BT for compensation?
