Why do my ankles click?
« on: 05/08/2008 12:59:06 »
Colin Dewynter asked the Naked Scientists:

Hello,

I have a question regarding my extremely loud clicking ankles that are so loud they wake up my girlfriend!  Why do they click?

Many thanks

What do you think?

I'd imagine it is the ligaments moving across your ankles. Try doing some regular stretches

When does it happen Colin, and what sorts of movements make it happen?

Why do my ankles click?

Hi,

I'm 34 and it's been happening for 20 years.  They click when I walk, especially upstairs and I have to click them myself when lying/sitting down to relieve what feels like a pressure building up every few minutes.  It doesn't hurt and gives me some relief for a few minutes.

I really want to know if this is going to cause me long term damage?

thanks
