Not pretty enough to sing.
« on: 12/08/2008 20:37:44 »
So the little girl at the opening ceremony of the Olympics was miming to the voice of a less pretty girl. Everyone is outraged. How hypocritical. The Monkeys were a boy band that didn't play on their own album. I presume less handsome musicians played for them. On the x-factor more talented but not pretty people are passed over for sexy people with less talent. We in the west have double standards. Do other people think that the press are trying to rubbish this Olympics for political reasons? Should sport and politics mix in this way and is beauty more important than talent?

Sorry if this is more than one question but I think it is a hot topic.

"Do other people think that the press are trying to rubbish this Olympics for political reasons?"
Well, I may be wrong, but I think the press are probably rubbishing it because it makes for better sales.
"Opening ceremony went well!" isn't as catchy a headline as "Opening ceremony cheats!".

Most newspapers have a political leaning.

The only leaning any company has is a financial leaning. Some sell to the left, some to the right. The truth is always somewhere between the lines or in the middle. To get the complete story, several sources need be consulted.

Does anyone remember the outrage about Milli Vanilli in the 70s when it was discovered that neither of them sang on their records?

With regard X-factor, American Idol, etc, yes. Many better talents are discarded siply because they don't look right; they're not considered "marketable". I think it's a crime that the public is denied their talent for financial reasons. However, there are Kelly Clarkson & Leona Lewis. They are both massively talented and gorgeous too.

That is why the Costwold's have been terrorized by a green beaver looking for brown hair dye.
