Welcome to the Forum Fay.

No. Yes. Yes :D. There are so many planets and stars it seams almost impossible for there to not be life on another planet, whether it needs to be just like the Earth is debatable. I doubt we are being watched as any radio signals from our planet are only now reaching nearby stars, plus lets face it we aren't exactly of stellar interest :). Plus what is it with all these conspiracy theories about not landing on the moon??? Was NASA just sending rockets up for the hell of it? I think not.

"was nasa just sending rockets up for the hell of it? " yes because the soviets were in front of the US as they sent Gagarin to orbit and brought it back also prevent the communisim to spread in US and world.

I say "no, maybe, yes".  I'd sure like to believe that life existas out there, and while I agree with you that the chances of there not being life are astronomical (no pun intended) the chances of there being life, are even less.  SO many events need to take place to produce life as we know it.  NOw you may say.... "well... maybe its not life AS WE KNOW IT..."  to that i say yes.... but then how do you define life?

Are YOUR mice nude? ;)

Dunno I think I probably define life a bit different from most mainly because of my AI interest... but it certainly involves a certain level of complexity to any given system to produce life-like behavior... Has anyone ever seen the game of life? If you mean just organic life then that’s it, it has to be organic and do all the things life does reproduce, move/grow etc.

If NASA did fake the video of the moon landing. for political reasons, or others, then i curious did other countries independent of the US ever walk on the moon? if so why is their no video of those moon walks? if anyone can help?

Of course we're being watched - how can we avoid CCTV in this day & age! But somehow I don't think that's what you meant :D I'll return to that in a moment.
There are certainly some good points raised by the conspiracy theorists about the US landing men on the moon. But, surely, if it were faked the Russians would have been able to tell. Their science was at just as high a level as the US & considering the oneupmanship going on between them at the time, if the Russians had any doubts as to the authenticity of the landings, they would have made a big thing of it. I for 1 remember no such bruhaha from them.
I believe there is life elsewhere in the universe. However, whether there is any at a suitably advanced stage that they could watch us is a different matter.
I remember reading many years ago an article by a leading sociologist (Don't ask me the name, it was too long ago) in which he suggested that any technologically advanced civilisation has a finite lifespan before it destroys itself or reverts to a simpler, less technological lifestyle. The temporal window during which it would have the technology to visit, or even just contact, other worlds was fairly short in comparison to the lifespan of a planet. He argued that for another civilisation to have independently & concurrently attained a level of intelligence that would allow it to realise it was being contacted is infinitessimally small.
His reasoning was quite convincing. Consider how long there has been life on Earth - is it 4 billion years? Yet it's only in the last few decades that we've had the technology to listen to signals coming from beyond our world. It is possible that, say, 2 billion years ago another civilisation was transmitting messages that we could have heard with present technology, or maybe they even visited Earth, but those messages or visits have now stopped for whatever reason - destruction, reversion or just plain boredom.

its my understanding that the russians figured out that it was a sham within days of the release of the lunar landing. but unless you had a russian newspaper come to your door...how would u hear about it.....at that time their was no internet to inform the world on......

I've watched many documentaries on TV, read many articles & visited countless websites & nowhere have I seen any indication that the Russians thought it was a hoax. Maybe censorship would have stopped it at the time but not these days

Well, my mother-in-law, (rest her soul), sat up with me on July 20, 1969 (is that right?) until we saw them walking on the surface. My wife and the kids slept thru it. Only six weeks later, dona Maria said "That could never have happened.".  So, I am not surprised when people under 30 suggest there was a hoax. Its hard to admit that your environment has changed irreversably.

I don't think its the people under thirty having a problem. They probably just accept it without really caring, similar to Christopher Columbus sailed to the new world. It is the people who remember the event who make these claims. I think they are just self-serving, and are only interested in have some attention on themselves. I have read their arguments, and most of them I can refute myself. Much of it is so ignorant it's amazing they would publish this tripe, and doubly amazing it would get media publicity.

"Dog bites man" isn't news. "Man bites dog" is news.

Every "news source" has to fight the tendency to yellow journalism every day. Sometimes they win and sometimes they lose.

If I had a news item to publish, I wouldn't releash editorial control. When a reporter with a BA submits a story to an editor with an MBA, who expects news?

hi doc
just like how Radio hams use moonbounce and  meteor scatter.  if an alien  civilisation was transmitting all them years ago would it still be possible for them signals to still be moving around out in space  bouncing back and forwards off objects and occasionally bouncing in our direction.
How long can a transmission survive when travelling through space

Heh I know it wasn't a sham since my Granddad was one of the first to see the pictures sent, since the UK got them first :). He worked at the place where they made the printers that printed stuffs from the receiving stations. My family had a copy of like one of the first images from the moon, but my Gran threw it away [V].

I think it's really obvious that we're not the only ones in this universe, there's so much evidence about aliens,UFO's, Unidentified creatures.
Saying that Aliens are definitely fake is like saying "There's no such thing as Ghost", and that's a silly thing to say unless you're talking to a 4yr old kid who scared of the Unknown.[8D]:D

It does seen strange for there to be so many planets and stars for there not to be life. Maybe not in this solar system but maybe in others.

You know what is weird...... when it showed pictures and video clips of the flag on the moon, the flag was being blown by the wind. There is no wind on the moon! Doi. So.... could that like have been false. OOO although maybe when they put the flag down the dude like flicked the flag and started it fluttering because it wouldn't stop would it? Just like if u jumped off a space ship in space upwards u would never stop. Am I right?

For life existing in outer space, I would say yes, for us being watched, I also would say yes if this life is very advanced technologically speaking, why? Our frantics upon this earth would be some good laughing material for them, reminds me of the southpark episode where the kids had discovered that earth was a reality show :P. Now about the Apollo mission, I think it did happen, tracing back a radio signal from the moon would be easy for Europe and other countries even in those days, so if there would be some evidence, then we would definately hear about it. But to be sure, we could send a probe to the moon that made some pictures and send those back to earth, if there isn´t any flag, then we would be certain of the Apollo mission being one of the biggest scams in technological history.

The only persons that really know if the moon landing was a fake or not is NASA, they're the only ones that have any hard evidence of the Moon Landing real or not.

Not really international observing stations were used for radio tracking in the Apollo missions. So everyone knew what was going on. How would these visitors from outer space know where we are? As I mentioned before any radio emissions from Earth haven't even fully reached nearby solar systems yet! UFO's are laughable ALL of the more legitimate ones are military aircraft that are kept secret.. I love how all the UFO books when I was younger used to have pictures and stories about iron/triangle shaped UFOs. Since the stealth bomber became public you don't see them mentioned anymore... funny that! There are also many naturally occurring phenomenons, such as ball lightning that can account for some too. It always strikes me as odd that the people who see all these UFOs are the people who adamantly claim they exist anyway?!?

I think it's really obvious that we're not the only ones in this universe, there's so much evidence about aliens,UFO's, Unidentified creatures.

There are no such things as Ghosts, Chubakabra, Gremlins, Goblins, Sprites, Fairies etc. it’s not the unknown it’s just the unfounded! I could make up some mythical creature right now, and swear to everyone I meet that it exists; THAT DOESN’T MAKE IT SO! In fact I already have they’re called WishCatz and they are k-rad, but I know exactly where they exist IN MY IMAGINATION! The only reason I believe in “aliens” is because statistically there is a high chance of there being so. I don’t believe however that they are “among us”. There is plenty of Carbon and Hydrogen and Oxygen in the universe all it takes is a bit of electricity and a protected environment to get the ball rolling, life is just an inevitable process under the correct environmental conditions. People turn to the “unknown” in the same way they turn to God (imho), for comfort that there is something more than themselves, and to have a higher purpose in life.

Another great one I like is that there must have been some super technological race teaching all the ancient civilisations to build pyramids. Does it never occur to all the people that believe this nonsense that a pyramid is probably the simplest and most stable way to produce a tall building? It’s not a great leap of faith to think that humans being the creatures they are thought up this idea separately multiple times.

The less techonologically blessed people are the ones most likely to believe in a conspiricy theory on the moon landing. If you recall, they set up several experiments including a laser reflecting station, Ham radio operators were listening in on the conversations, other governments were using powerful radars to "watch" the space craft. And the technology they developed works for unmanned craft. Not only the Brits received those transmissions, and they came from the right direction, had the right delay time, etc. etc. etc.

On top of that, American security never was great. You Brits are much better at keeping secrets.

On the watchers, I think we grossly underestimate the dangers of space travel. With any speed, you can't change direction very fast. And a grain sized rock will really mess up your ship at 50% light speed, much less 90%. And should you run across an unmarked black hole, well hope you have insurance. Moving that space dust out of the way in time for an almost light speed ship would involve a lot of energy, and probabliy easily double or even quadruple the energy cost of the trip.

I think most civilizations are going to find interstellar travel very unpractial.

To slow down, you would need to reverse the ship and start spewing out thrust at your target. The energy signature would be  very observable. We would have some time to think about what to say to them.
