What is Schumans disease?
« on: 05/10/2008 11:17:52 »
emma lancelot asked the Naked Scientists:

My eyes have started to swell up a lot lately, and I don't know why.  Is there anything I can do about it? I was born with Schumans, and all through my life, I cant get any advice.  My old dr. Cruthers knew about it, but he doesnt practice anymore.

I would love more info, as i'm really suffering!

Thank you

What do you think?

Scheuermann's disease ?

Quote
Scheuermann’s disease is a self-limiting skeletal disorder of childhood.
It is also known as Sherman's Disease (since some people have difficulties spelling Scheuermann)
and Scheuermann’s kyphosis, since it results in kyphosis.
It is named for Holger Werfel Scheuermann.

If you are referring to a diagnosis of Scheuermann's disease, consider investigating the possibility of Cushing's disease,
as Cushing's disease can cause both kyphosis and bulging eyes (exophthalmos).
