There is no time like now...

What is 'now'?

Assuming my experience of the current in time is a mash up of the very recent past and anticipation of the short term future, doesn't 'now' look vanishingly small?

If 'now' is so small that it doesn't actually exist but is in fact just an abstract concept used to divide the past from the future, then do I exist?

If 'free will' existed - would it have to exist in that nebulous place called 'now'?

Just something I've been thinking about recently. If it's been discussed before then gi's a link!

Love from Ben X

By the time you have finished saying 'now', 'now' is already 'then'.

It's open to debate whether 'now' has a non-zero size or is a zero-thickness boundary between the past and the future, but either way, if you don't exist you couldn't have posted your question, which should be reassuring.

OK then, I'm in over my head... If 'now' is non-zero does this mean that time can be granular?

I can tell you guys have never loved a good woman. Then you would know the meaning of now!

'How soon is now?' - one of the best songs ever!

I am the son
and the heir
of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and heir
of nothing in particular

You shut your mouth
how can you say
I go about things the wrong way
I am human and I need to be loved
just like everybody else does

I am the son
and the heir
of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and the heir
of nothing in particular

You shut your mouth
how can you say
I go about things the wrong way
I am human and I need to be loved
just like everybody else does

There's a club if you'd like to go
you could meet somebody who really loves you
so you go, and you stand on your own
and you leave on your own
and you go home, and you cry
and you want to die

When you say it's gonna happen "now"
well, when exactly do you mean?
see I've already waited too long
and all my hope is gone

You shut your mouth
how can you say
I go about things the wrong way
I am human and I need to be loved
just like everybody else does

Now is when you are doing something that makes you lose track of time. Time is a perceived thing so if you stop perceiving it then now is constant. This has to be the most profound thing I will ever say.
If you want to read a good book that is fiction but uses the perception of time as a theme try "Miss Smilers feeling for snow" it is jolly good.
