Is a salt-free diet possible ?
« on: 01/04/2005 10:12:58 »
As far as I know, I don't have any salt in my diet. I don't eat junk food, I don't eat prepared meals from the supermarket and don't bother with snack foods.   Bananas and apples for breakfast, meat and veg from the local farm for evening meals, something from the sandwich shop or bistro for lunch.

Should I have some salt? Am I depriving myself of anything essential?

You've let yourself down a bit with the sandwich.  The slices of bread will contain quite a surprising amount of salt.  Probably more than you might imagine sadly :o/

Errhmmm !!..I'm sure there are other things you might eat that are salty !!! ;)(Ok, I'm ready for the ban)......but, in all seriousnous I am sure you are deriving salt intake as it's a sneaky flavour enhancer in a whole manner of other things....

Please list the entire contents of your fridge, freezer and cupboards/larder/pantry for a detailed synopsis of the salt within.:)

Did I mention that I am a slug?

You're right Les, there is salt in the bread of a quantity I don't know. So I am probably not salt free.

If I was to be salt free, would it be detrimental to my health?

According to this site http://www.geocities.com/athens/2707/phys.html we physiologically crave 5-10 grammes of salt a day .
