I have three teeth that are sensitive to cold at the moment so the cold weather is killing my gob. I have started brushing with sensodine which is supposed to stop your teeth from being sensitive. I couldn't see an active ingredient listed so was baffled. Has anyone got any clues or inside knowledge?

Sensodine? Sounds like the cheaper version of sensodyne.

Sensodyne-F contains potassium nitrate 5% w/w, as the desensitizing agent, and also contains fluoride for ongoing caries prevention. Potassium nitrate inhibits repolarization of sensory nerve endings, thereby reducing the pain response to stimulation

Sensodyne Original formula contains strontium chloride 10% w/w. Strontium chloride occludes the dentinal tubules, thereby reducing fluid flow and dentin hypersensitivity pain. This formula does not contain fluoride.

Does this mean Sensodyne-F can be used as a topical anaesthetic if I could somehow get the KNO3 to sink into it?

Which reminds me, wasn't there someone looking for KNO3 from gardening shops in another thread?

How does sensodine toothpaste work

I thought from the adverts that it helped to mend minor cracks in your molars. My dentist always claims that brushing your teeth 4 times a day will do this anyway. This is all very confusing.
So all sensodyne (correct unfogged spelling) does is stop your nerves from working. What a cheat.
