william mclellan asked the Naked Scientists:

Hi. Does taking 75mg of aspirin every day effect my red blood cell count to the detriment of running every day?

Many thanks

Bill

What do you think?

I take at least 300mg of aspirin on a daily basis, and also have been having very regualar blood tests over recent months. Nothing of any significance has shown up in the tests, This despite undergoing chemotherapy for five months. However, I can't say I do any running.

I think much might depend up the individual's personal make-up, though, as drugs affect us all differently.

75mg is a very small daily dose, but if you have symptoms when running that concern you, I'd suggest that you speak with your GP and discuss these.
