Why do towels get dirty?

If you dry your clean hands on a towel, why does a towel eventually get dirty ?

for the same reason that typing with clean hands on a keyboard makes it dirty and why computer mice get clogged up, your hands may be clean but they are covered with skin cells and oils which are falling off all the time. These appear to rot in some way (on keyboards and mice anyway) to give that lovely black residue. I guess the same thing happens with towels.
