« on: 20/02/2009 20:09:57 »
Deaer Peeps,

My new Super Puter comes with a friggin trial version of Word 2000 and something !

I am not going to buy the full version.

So, what word pro do you use that will work on Vista and deal with word and excel docs  ?

My Vista (home premium) package came with microsoft works 8, its wordprocessor is OK, no complaints...

I've also got the freebee OpenOffice (2.4) running on Vista ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenOffice.org

For me the "Killer Application" of the OO wordprocessor is that it can convert documents into PDFs with working hotlinks:
with most free PDF converters the hotlinks do not work in the PDF version.

The OO package is allegedly compatible with Excel files ...

EXCELLENT !!..Thank EWE RD !

Wonderful screenshots !!

I am downloading OO 3.01 at the moment.

I do have Works Suite 2004 and thought about installing it but figured it may not work. I do have an old version of WORD 97 that I did install but I have found some issues when printing !

Thank you again....this is very helpful !

I use OpenOffice too. I've got it on my Windows & Linux PCs. I've not yet found anything I can't do with it & I think it's easier than MS Word.

I think it is possible to download part of the OO package, e.g. OO Writer on its own,
this would mean a shorter download time, (although I have not tried doing this).

IIRC it took me about 15 minutes to download OO 2.4 in its entirety.

OO needs Java.
If you click on this link it will download and install Java (5min) then automatically offer you the option of downloading Open Office.
No Java No OO.
