It really does look like a swallow! I love swallows, we have them here by the tons. They are very cool and can get ptreyyi brave and come very close to you. Hummingbirds get used to you also and will actually come and sit right at or around your shoulders and body if you remain pretty still. I love birds!!!!.....Karen

It is a raptor or some type IF it is a bird because the eyes are faced forward. BUT I dount think it is a bird. It is a mammalian carnivore. The streamlineing and, above all, the good offices of the emporer in letting us know it was dry, suggest to me a seal. Unless of course Hadrian tried to drown his cat. [xx(]

Jim bob I think you are right, It does look so much more like a seal! I was having trouble with the bird although the only trouble was the beak, it looked like it did not have one. So I was thinking it was an optical illusion with the camera angle! A seal is much better option now that I am looking at it with your eyes. Interesting I did not see that til you said it, now I don't know why I saw anything else!

It is named after the planet Saturn, but it is actually microscopic.
Its name also includes the invention associated with Guglielmo Marconi.
Very Cryptic Clue: A regular customer at the zoological garden.

Robert,

To a geologist you just gave the whole thing away. These things have been around since the Cambrian.

Caption:-
Radiolarian. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the shell (skeleton) of Saturnulus planetus, a type of radiolarian protozoan. Radiolarians build these hard, mineral skeletons around themselves as they float in warm seas with other plankton. They extend their protoplasm as pseudopodia (false feet) through pores in the shell to feed on tiny organisms. The radiolarians can change their density in order to vary their depth. Large numbers of radiolarian skeletons litter the sea bed; these become fossilised to form minerals like flint. Magnification: x536 at 6x7cm size "

If you click on the above link you can see different types of radiolarian skeletons.
You're right Karen, they would not look out of place in an art gallery.

I didn't say what it was because I wanted others to have a chance to look this stuf up. The Pyramids are made mostly from radiolarian limestone.

GOOGLE RADIOLARIAN - They are beautiful little beasties!
