nur asked the Naked Scientists:

Please explain on how the beer going flat in an open bottle is an example of open systems which never allowed to reach equilibrium.

What do you think?

On a more serious note:

-For equilibrium to be established, the system must be closed.

The solubility of a gas in a liquid depends upon both temperature and pressure.

-Solubility decreases as the temperature increases.
-Solubility increases as the the pressure increase.

In this case, the pressure has decreased (when the bottle is opened), so the solubility of the gases decreases, so the beer goes flat. As the bottle is opened.
