Need Help About Atomic Structure
« on: 08/06/2005 19:58:07 »
Hi Every one
I m fehmeed i m a graduation student.
since we all know that the central part of the atom is rich of Protons and Neutrons. Since Protons are positive in charge . and if they are concentrated in the neucleus it means that all the positive charged protons are gathered in neucleus. but according to classics physics "Same Charges Repel Each Other" but there is no any kind of repulsion in the neucleus. I want to know that why its happen

Neutrons are neutral they have no charge, so they would noy repel.

You are quite correct that like charges repel, and so the nucleus should try to fly apart. It doesn't because the particles therein are bound by a strong nuclear force that acts over short distances, binding everything together.

Chris is right, there are three known forces: electromagnetic, gravitational, and the "Strong Force". Special Relitivity defines the interaction of the first two. The third force is the subject of a lot research, but you need an atom smasher, or a brain warped by a very high IQ to work on it.
Ah, my wife says there is a fourth force, and, and, and... well got to go now guys, wife wants me.

A few years ago there was a lot of talk about the imminent unification of the EM and weak forces.  Where does this idea stand today?

Still unsolved. That is one of the reasons I think there might be a major flaw in special relativity. The experts seem to be hitting a stone wall or as a country boy might say, they are barking up the wrong tree...

As to the weak force I quote myself

Ah, my wife says there is a fourth force, and, and, and... well got to go now guys, wife wants me.

Women are often referred to as the weaker sex. Someone missed the joke..
