Need Help About Atomic Structure
« on: 08/06/2005 19:58:38 »
Hi Every one
I m fehmeed i m a graduation student.
since we all know that the central part of the atom is rich of Protons and Neutrons. Since Protons are positive in charge . and if they are concentrated in the neucleus it means that all the positive charged protons are gathered in neucleus. but according to classics physics "Same Charges Repel Each Other" but there is no any kind of repulsion in the neucleus. I want to know that why its happen

Great question.

Actually, there is a hell of a lot of repulsion in the nucleus, but there is a strong nuclear force holding it all together. This is rather like glue that sticks all the mutually repelling protons together :

See Brian Fulton's page about nuclear structure and astrophysics and read under "what is a nuclear reaction?"
