A popular American television series has ended tonight.  Although the epilogue of the show states that the main protagonist succumbed to his brain tumor, I did not feel any sadness about it.  The main villain, however, was tried for treason and multiple counts of murder and was sentenced to death.  It shows his last seconds of him being incredibly fearful and shaky as he is strapped to the electric chair.  For some reason, I felt incredible sadness for him.

Irony, not comedy

I know what you mean. If you'd witnessed the last moments of the guy who died from the brain tumour, I suspect you'd have felt at least as sad as you did for the bloke in the chair. Just seeing something written in text, presumably in past tense, doesn't really generate the same kind of emotional responses as seeing something 'for real', regardless of what responses you think you should feel.

What were you watching anyway? Was it the one with the WTC still in it?

Brutality is always more shocking than a natural death even one that happens to a reasonably young person. Life is precious and everyone should have the right to life even if they have killed someone else or committed treason.
