Why do young cats constantly get stuck up trees?
« on: 25/06/2009 20:22:25 »
I have lots of tall trees in my garden and two young cats that are constantly stuck in them. Luckily I have long ladders. But why do they keep going up if they know they can't get down?

Did you ever hear the phrase "Curiosity killed the cat!" lol...

Not to mention a kittens or cats impulse to hunt... naturally one of a cats favorite games are catch the birdy!!! Thus the appeal to tree's....so I think the jonsing for Tweety Bird is stronger then the fear of being stuck in that tree where my sweet doting  caretaker will rescue me from!

You have been ignoring them too much and they want to get your attention.

Couldn't they just jump on my knee. That doesn't involve heights

Mine does that with 'gifts'.  I appreciate the thought, but wish he would find something other than dead/dying birds.  If he could start bringing me discarded wallets, or shoes for Jen, that would be better.

Cats like tall places presumably because it lets them hunt, mainly mice and things, they're more likely to spot where prey nests are located from up a tree.

Claws are a bit of a problem because it lets them go up easily, but it's difficult to go down. Being young and impetuous doesn't help, older cats do it a lot less.

It's a fact but true that within tall trees reside communities of  " Young-Cat Magnets ".

Tall trees specifically have a penchant for young cats and will scheme and contrive any number of ways to either attract cats or catch them.  A tall tree laden with Young-Cat Magnets will whoosh a cat up into it's branches should the cat come within just a few feet.  It's often thought that the tree is acting akin a Venus Flytrap, however, it's now generally accepted that the trees cosset the cats, they love the cats and like most 'It' girls who accessorize themselves with a small doggy in their handbag......trees act accordingly the same with cats...or ..as the picture below demonstrates...with goats (This is generally the result of the tree residing in a ' cat free ' zone. )

I'm a sheepy magnet! Well strictly thats not true. I actually cover myself in velcro and sheep stick to me as I go by. Watch out sheepy!

I think the bit about nest hunting is true but I've noticed the large number of pigeons living in the tops of my trees so perhaps the pigeons magnetic navigation system is also acting as a cat magnet......What?
