The Lap band for weight loss
« on: 12/08/2005 16:18:50 »
I was wondering if anyone on this forum has had the Lap Band procedure?  A month ago I was still researching the Gastric Rouen-Y surgery and definitely decided against that after going to a Seminar with the doctor.  I also have 2 close friends that had the gastric bypass, one is pregnant due in Oct. no problems.  The other friend stays sick with her stomach all the time.  I am scheduled for a Consult with Dr. Speigel and his nurse on the 25th of Aug.  I am so excited, but I wanted to hear from anyone else.  This surgery is much less invasive and there is no dumping involved.

I went to a chat room for weight loss. I asked about the band. A few said they knew of some people that had had it and weren't happy. Both had the bypass done after. They had little weight loss and it wasn't long term.

Miss B
I remember you from Zeta thread.  Well, I am going to a seminar Aug 25th.  My options have gotten to surgery now.  I am not doing well with my Diabetes and my doc suggested something a little more drastic.  I am very well informed now on the band and I am excited.  I should have the laprascopy surgery by the end of Sept.  Insurances will approve the lap band 10 times quicker.  I have found in the last 15 days several people who have had the lap band and they say they would do it again, no questions asked.  There are fewer problems and they lose the weight slower and with less medical interference.  If you want more info email me.  mommacyr@msn.com  I don't like jumping on band wagons but I feel this is permanent and with some lifestyle changes it will work.  I can't excercise much right now, but Dr, Spiegel says that with a little time I will get some weight off and it will be easier to get up and move.
Thanks for your input.

yea.. I found these other posts by accident one night. I checked all over the internet for the gastro bypass and band information. I have almost gone to a seminar, but I only need to lose about 40lbs. They won't do anything for me. Good luck with yours, let me know how it goes.!
