How can a textile fiber be made from Bamboo?

Just heard a radio comercial advertising womens pajamas made from bamboo!

Described  as veeeeeery soft?

How can this be?  Chopsticks yes, but ladies delicates?


Anyone care to elucidate?

Perhaps you have to lay very straight?
