Is is possible to produce man-made elements?
« on: 09/09/2009 20:14:05 »
SO, I know that all our elements are made out of molecules. Now, is it possible for scientist (or one day) to mix @ match them to design man made elements not yet made? I apologize if this does not make sense.

[MOD EDIT - PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR POST TITLES ARE PHRASED AS QUESTIONS - THIS IS OUR FORUM POLICY. THANKS, CHRIS]

Aye? It doesn't make sense. That should be the other way 'round buddy.

It's already happened.

Quite so C4M.

A molecule is a number of atoms of a single element or two or more elements, which react together to form a substance, most of which we all know well by their common name's.

I just wonder if Cooljeffct2 meant to ask 'can we make a new man-made element?'

Take a few packets of Asda's (US Wallmart) own brand subatomic particles, mix them together in a hitherto unknown quantity of protons, neutrons, electrons and a little seasoning and come up with a totally new element.

Was that the question you meant to ask?
