Is there No way out?
« on: 05/10/2009 17:24:41 »
Hi guys
Omid has an aunt who has intestinal disease (not sure :-\), she operated to cure the disease and it was successful as well but the problem is that now she can't use her annus to eliminate the waste products of her body. the Doctors've provided her with some sort of bag which is at the front side and Omid guess she eliminates the waste products directly from her large intestine to the provided bag. omid really does not know the real situation but just want to ask the biologists that if there is a way out that she can escape the pain she going through.
If anybody on the forum thinks that he or she can help Omid and needs some more information about this then just send a personal message to omid and omid'll email them her medical reports.
Thank you

The device is a ostomy bag (colostomy or ileostomy).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ostomy_pouching_system

Typically the use of this device is permanent, but in some conditions it is temporary : later the intestine is repaired and normal bowel function is restored (i.e. via "annus")

If by "pain" you mean psychological distress then this support group may be of help ...

The Colostomy Association is a UK registered charity representing the interests of people with a colostomy. Colostomy is not a subject that is openly discussed - hence there is a general lack of public knowledge on what it's like to have a stoma*. We offer support, reassurance and practical information to anyone who may be about to have, or already has a colostomy. The Association provides assistance to those who are new to living with a colostomy as well as those who have been colostomates for many years. Appropriate support and advice is offered to families and carers both before and after surgery.

* the stoma is the opening in the abdomen where the bag is connected.

Does your Aunt have Hirschsprung's disease?

Although usually associated with newborn babies, I believe it can also develope in later life.
