Giant Viruses!
« on: 25/09/2005 16:51:15 »
I was just wondering if anyone knows much about "giant viruses" like Mimi and a new one found at the place where I work: http://www.nerc.ac.uk/publications/latestpressrelease/2005-38virus.asp
How is something on the same level of genetic complexity as bacteria still classified as a virus? Surely it should be out on its own, if we distinguish between archaebacteria and bacteria? If anyone has any more info or some links about this stuff I would be grateful!:D

These viruses have DNA, RNA and produce lots of their own proteins and can repair their own genetic structure... surely they aren't viruses but a new form of life not seen before?

wOw the world spins?

Cool Info. Looks like another form of life to me, even if you just call it a super virus, this is a major change.
