That you can cut through really thick steel with oxygen only?

Oxyacetelene cutters can melt steel to cut it. The acetelene is only used to get the cut started, then the acetelene is turned off and the cut continues using oxygen alone. The reaction between the steel and the oxygen is highly exothermic. The steel is actually burning.

Never mix steel wool and batteries in your shopping bag!

I seem to remember you can even set steel on fire with a match. If you sprinkle steel particles through fine sieve, they will ignite quite violently if you light them with a match.

You just need a 9 volt battery to burn steel ...

It sounds unbelievable, but I think it is actually true. However, I may have confused the experiment with another experiment. It's been a long time since I saw it. Perhaps someone can clarify.

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden chainsaws daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed -- and gazed -- but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the chainsaws daffodils.

With apologies to W. Wordsworth

I have a similar problem with gladioli and screwdrivers. Gladioli really don't like to be re-charged too much.
