Science, its a game, right?
« on: 07/01/2010 12:12:51 »
We've had a few games here (word game, Freudian word link) which rather tend to go around in circles and just aren't 'science'. So how about this one:

The Confounded Compound Game.

Here's how it works. I will give you a chemical compound, each post must change, add or subtract one element (or group of elements) to come up with a new compound at each step, but you must try not repeat a compound which has been used before.

Example:

  • Sodium chloride
  • Calcium chloride
  • Calcium hydroxide
  • Potassium hydroxide
  • Potassium nitrate
  • Potassium manganate
  • Potassium permanganate
  • Ammonium permanganate

Try to keep it relatively simple (as above) or it might get a tad difficult to come up with something, you just try changing one element (or group) out of this lot to arrive at a new compund: TETRAMETHYLDIAMINOBENZHYDRYLPHOSPHINOUS!!!

OK, so here's the start point and two follow ons:-

  • Silver Nitrate
  • Silver chloride
  • Magnesium chloride

Who's going to give the next compound?

Take it away Naked Scientists......

Iron (II) Sulphate

(btw, if you use Ctrl+F then type in your chemical, you won't have to trawl through loads of replies! But due to differences in naming, I guess you could end up using a different name for the same chemical!)
