When going for a walk in the frigid cold with the ol wife, all starts out pretty good. As we reach the mile mark she'll start scratching her leg. A moment later I start scratching my leg. We both then have incredible itching that we need both hands to scratch all over our legs and buttocks. What's the deal with that?

Also, I experience the itching in the hands after working outside in the cold. I come inside after a while and the intense itching surges through my hands.  Is this all due to our skin just drying out or is there something else going on here?

There is no problem with that unless you are scratching the legs and buttocks of someone who is not your regular partner. I believe this is called the 7 year itch.

It's probably caused by the lack of humidity in the cold air. I have a similar problem with my ankles in the winter. Moisturizing lotion helps.

The itching in your hands might be caused by the same thing, or it might be a precursor to frostbite. Get some decent gloves, or better still, mitts. They might be considered a bit "sissy", but they work a lot better than gloves.
