I haven't seen Avatar.

The four word film reveiws can be amusing,

It's four words or less actually, e.g. 2 ...

Smurfs on steroids show wheelchair bound man how to really live in a green and sustainable manor. Lots of lovely glowing flowers and other fora and flora provide a nice backdrop. Excellent 3D without being too cheesy and having things fly out of the screen every second. Baddies are very pantomime and the director should have spent a little more thought on making them more believable.
We all really enjoyed it and it was a work of art but not the best acting I've ever seen. The Avatars were better.

I agree with MIL. It's not going to go down in history as the greatest plot ever, but it's an enjoyable cinematic spectacle.  The environments are beautifully rendered and it really suits 3d. The floating mountains are particularly well made.

There's definitely an environmental & Iraq war subtext, non too subtly executed. "Fighting terror with terror" is mentioned at one point!

Just been to see it in London. I thought it was worth the money. Amazing and faultless animation and the 3D was used without too many silly effects. The story is a classic fight between the good and spiritual "noble savages" and a greedy capitalist war machine (from earth) after the rare mineral wealth. The parallels with Iraq are clearly intended, they even use the phrase "shock and awe", but the morals are rendered too simplistic to convince any with already committed viewpoints. Go see it.
