I can't find the area you are asking about. Can you give a specific location? I suspect the problem may be in the spelling of the area.

I think he could be referring to Scandinavia. You know, the bit at the top of Europe that looks a bit like a gentleman's wotsit.

Aha! that was the bit that Slartibartfast designed; he was especially proud of the fjords and won an award for them.

Alas, poor Slartibartfast, I knew him well, Horatio.

Actually, the Baltic Sea didn't exists 2.5 million years ago. It is an inland sea very similar in nature to the Black Sea. The main exit from the Baltic is guarded by a fort called Elsinore - hence the reference to Slartibartfast and Hamlet, as Elsinore was the setting for Hamlet - and the cannon from Elsinore could, at the end of the 18th century almost prevent any traffic to or from the North Sea.

The Black Sea is really just two deep river valleys drowned by the latest rise in sea level. The lands of Scandinavia around it are all part of one great continent - Europe.

No archipelago here, Judy.
