Karina van Twisk  asked the Naked Scientists:

Hello Chris!

I hope you doing fine, I always enjoy listening to your podcasts together with my husband. They're always so informative and interesting to hear.

I've got a question that is more related with the fact that we currently live in Ecuador, the middle of the world country! and trying to get some plants growing up in our garden I've always noticed that tulip bulbs never bloom!

Why is it that tulip bulbs can not be growth in the Equator? , and What would it take to actually get tulips grow and bloom here?

Thanks so much for your explanation.

Best Regards from the middle of the world,

Karina van Twisk

What do you think?

I think DD is right. You might be able to trick them by putting the bulbs in a fridge for a while before you plant them. You'll have to do that every year of course.
